LPIA and Department of Labour Host 2nd Annual Job Fair, Connecting 500+ Job Seekers with Airport Concessionaires
2 June 2025

NASSAU, BAHAMAS June 2, 2025— Building on the success of last year’s event, Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD), in collaboration with the Department of Labour, hosted its second annual job fair. The event brought together 16 food & beverage and retail concessionaires operating at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA).

Held at the National Training Agency, the job fair attracted approximately 530 job seekers eager to explore employment opportunities at the airport. Employers conducted on-the-spot interviews and shared insights about their companies with participants.

The job fair is part of NAD’s continued commitment to supporting airport stakeholders while enhancing the overall guest experience at LPIA through excellent service and engaged staff, particularly at retail and food & beverage outlets. As a key economic driver in the tourism sector, LPIA supports more than 4,300 employees at the country’s main gateway.

“This year, we were proud to have 16 of our tenants here to help them identify qualified talent for current openings and future career opportunities,” said Charlotte Knowles-Thompson, Marketing Coordinator at NAD.

Speaking directly to participants throughout the day, Knowles-Thompson encouraged job seekers to make the most of the opportunity. “We ask them to broaden their horizons, speak to everybody because you never know where the opportunity will present itself. This is a moment for you to find gainful employment and to be a part of something bigger than yourself.”

Simone Thurston, Manager of the Public Employment Services Unit at the Department of Labour, reiterated the agency’s role in helping Bahamians find meaningful employment.

“We are partnering with LPIA in this job fair exercise. As you are aware, the Department of Labour is in the business of assisting persons with employment opportunities hence the collaboration and partnership,” said Thurston. “The unemployment rate, as it stands, is at 8.7%, and we endeavor to decrease that number even further. So today we are happy to be able to assist LPIA in this job fair event.”

Participating employers also praised the event’s organization and were impressed with the quality of applicants.

“For us it’s been pretty positive, we’ve had a number of applicants come through our brands and enquire about the possibility of getting employed and so we’ve really helped them quite a bit to do that,” said Nina Maynard, Director of Human Resources at The Myers Group of Restaurants.

“We’ve encountered quite a number of young people—and all ages really—but a lot of young people who seem to be eager to start their lives and achieve their goals and we’re all for that. We want to make sure that when people come to work for us they look at it as not only a job but also a career.”

Given the continued success of the initiative, NAD and the Department of Labour plan to explore future collaborations to support additional job creation at LPIA.
