Paula joined the company in 2007 as Financial Controller and was appointed Director of Finance in 2013.  In her new post, she will provide leadership and coordination of the company’s financial planning, debt management and budget management functions toward the continued implementation of the organization’s strategic goals.

Nassau, Bahamas – March 25, 2016 – At 3:38pm, Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD), operator of Nassau International Airport (Lynden Pindling International Airport), received information from Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Services that JetBlue flight 029, en route to Nassau from Washington DC with 97 souls onboard, declared an emergency landing upon approach.

The aircraft landed at 4:37pm without incident and was immediately met by the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting team and other emergency responders.  The passengers were safely removed from the aircraft and were evaluated by medical personnel, no injuries were found.

NAD is working in full cooperation with JetBlue’s local team and all airport and agency partners to secure the aircraft and evaluate the condition of the runway.  At present, airport operations are proceeding as normal with aircraft landing and taking off using the other active runway.

Jet Blue Airways recently announced that it will begin operating two additional flights to Lynden Pindling International Airport from Fort Lauderdale – Hollywood International Airport (FLL) daily on August 1, 2016. With the addition of these new flights, JetBlue will provide five flights to and from LPIA per day.  Philip Stewart, JetBlue’s manager of corporate communications, explained to Guardian Business that “Nassau is a top leisure destination for JetBlue customers who are seeking its beaches, blue water, coral reefs, and world-class resorts.” The added service comes as a part of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport’s major expansion project, which is currently underway and will increase the carrier’s current size at that airport by roughly 75%.  Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airport is one of JetBlue’s secondary hubs.

Southwest Airlines will add daily nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Nassau starting August 7, 2016. The new route is the airline’s first international service from Fort Lauderdale’s Hollywood International Airport. Southwest selected Nassau as its first route because of the existing U.S. Customs and Border Protection pre-clearance processing service that is available at Lynden Pindling International Airport. From February 22-26, Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) hosted a series of events and activities at LPIA as a part of its “LPIA Clean Up Week” campaign.  The campaign was designed to promote corporate and personal environmental responsibility. The Bahamas National Trust and the Department of Agriculture gave presentations to airport community members, while teams from several NAD departments organized a tree-planting event, a parking lot cleaning drive and the airport’s annual Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Walk to clean the airside. The entire week was planned by NAD’s Environmental Affairs Team, who also distributed brochures across the airport community to reinforce the importance of maintaining our surroundings.
