Accessibility
An airport for everyone
We strive to make LPIA accessible for every passenger. This includes adding accessible features throughout the airport and providing assistance for passengers who need some extra help.

Accessibility Features

Parking
For your comfort and ease, accessible parking is available in all our short-term parking lots.

Elevators and Escalators
Elevators and escalators are located at every transition level at LPIA, allowing for seamless movement through the facilities.

Restrooms
Family and handicapped restrooms are conveniently placed throughout the terminals for adults requiring assistance or for parents travelling with small children.

Wheelchairs
Need wheelchair services? Contact your airline in advance to secure a chair on arrival or departure.

Sunflower Lanyard Program
The Sunflower Lanyard provides support for guests with hidden disabilities.
At LPIA, we participate in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program. This lanyard helps airport staff identify guests who may require extra assistance. If you or a loved one have a non-visible disability and need support while travelling, read our Frequently Asked Questions below for more information.
Frequently Asked Questions
There is no qualifying list of hidden disabilities. If you have a non-visible disability and feel that you would benefit from wearing the lanyard, please do so.
You can get a Sunflower Lanyard by emailing sunflower@nas.bs and providing your name, flight details and date of travel. You can then collect it from our corporate offices, or we will ensure that the airline has it waiting for you at check-in. Alternatively, you may collect a Sunflower Lanyard from the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, located on John F. Kennedy Drive & Bethel Avenue.
Wearing a Sunflower only indicates that you have a hidden disability and that you may need some additional time or assistance. It does not provide you with an opportunity to be fast-tracked through security, nor does it provide any other benefit.
While the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is new to The Bahamas, it is internationally recognized at more than 180 airports in more than 26 different countries. The Sunflower continues to expand with more and more airports and other institutions joining every month. For the latest update on where the program is recognized, click here.
If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at sunflower@nas.bs, and we will respond as quickly as we can. To find out more about the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, visit their website.
